Milksync, Outlook and GTD Outlook Ad-On

guillemrossello says:
I use RTM because I like it, but I must use Outlook in my job.

For that reason, I installed on Outlook the GTD Outlook Ad-On of David Allen, and I must say it works great!!

With this ad-on (is not too expensive) I've many features that improve my GTD system. One of them is the possibility of havin Projects and subprojects.

I think it would be great to sync the lists of RTM as Projects, and not to add any symbol at the beginning of the lists and tags.

I don't find a good GTD solution to use te same field (Categories) for lists and for tags.

Hi,

RTM - WISHLIST!

I have the David Allen GTD Add-In for Outlook from www.netcentrics.com

I use this as my primary GTD engine.

This add-in adds new user-defined fields to the Outlook Task items, namely, fields called 'Project' and 'SubProject'

The add-in also creates a special task for each project and subproject, presumably to store system information.

The add-in also includes views that allow filtering so that the tasks are sorted in a three-level hierarchy: project/subproject(optional)/task

The task category is used as the 'context,' so each task is marked with an outlook category, e.g. '@home'

I have not found a way to do custom field mappings in MilkSync.AT THE MOMENT I AM LOSING THE PROJECT AND SUBPROJECT ATTRIBUTES WITH RTM WHICH MAKES IT LESS VALUABLE TO ME AS A POWER INFORMATION WORKER.

I would dearly love to be able to get MilkSync to read any Outlook task field and map it to a tag using a regular expression,

e.g. assuming the project name='build-a-farm' and subproject='make-a-barn' and task='lay foundation' and context is @farm

The RTM tags on the 'lay foundation' would then be #build-a-farm, ##make-a-barn and the list would be @farm

It would be good to have a 'GTD' mode on RTM and RTM iPhone to allow hierarchical sorting by tags, e.g. a single tree view with expand collapse
#build-a-farm
___get-a-loan (@errands) - location: bank
___buy-a-farm (@errands) - location: real estate
___##make-a-barn
______lay foundation (@farm) - location: farmstead
______buy hay for barn (@errand) - location: shops
______buy cattle (@errand) - location: cattleyard
___##make-a-home
___##fence-the-farm
______buy fence... etc.etc.

So in summary, I would dearly love RTM to be able to do the following:
1) MilkSync for Outlook - map custom task fields to tags using regular expressions or some other kind of flexible processing rule system, ostensbily to allow mapping of these fields to the user's needs

2) Create some mapping templates to allow for systems like David Allen GTD (as per my example above). This gives users a starting point that can then be customised if they change their primary GTD system

3) Milksync for Outlook - choose which taks with attributes NOT to sync with RTM (e.g. projects/subprojects, which appear as 'tasks' but don't need to be as they are not actually 'tasks')

4) RTM Web and iPhone - expandable/collapsible hierarchical tag view using the number of '#'es as the hierarchy level

5) another suggestion: MilkBridge. Custom tool for power users. Allow RTM to interface/interchange/sync rich metadata for tasks with *any* other GTD/task system as long as the other system has a defined API or a plug-in for some kind of XML communication

Please let us know if there is a demand out there to allow this kind of transformational mapping across different task management products that can preserve the rich multi-deimensional hierarchy and functionality of GTD frameworks implemented across multiple systems.
