URLs assumed to be http

I have added some file:/// URLS to the URL field for a task. It appears all URLs are suumed to be http. COuld the protocol only be set for urls which do not have one? My urls are being translated to http://file:///Drive:/blah/foo.bar . This is also a probelm for ftp urls.
