Why is Android only for Pro Accounts?
michael.akin says:
I was just wondering why the android was just for the Pro Accounts? I read about this and we have an android phone.
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
Pro accounts (and the nice people who buy them! :) are what enables us to continue running Remember The Milk and developing the service (and apps like the Android app).
We've tried to keep as much of Remember The Milk as we can free for everyone, but without Pro accounts (and something to offer as Pro benefits :) unfortunately the service couldn't exist. If you're interested, you can read a little bit about the history of Remember The Milk and Pro accounts (and why we introduced them in the first place) here.
Hope this helps to answer your question!

I'm bummed by this, too. Syncing with android is the only feature I'm interested in, so unless I'm mistaken (and correct me if I am!) the only way I can try it out is to shell out $25.

+1
I specifically upgraded to a pro account just to get the Android app, so I can confirm that the business model works!!

Ditto. I don't have a problem paying someone for their efforts and work when it's a useful and helpful product.

cevamal,
We offer a 15-day trial specifically for this purpose; just install the app and log in to get started.

@Cevamal: RTM don't really highlight this enough (in my view), but you *can* try out RTM for Android free for a few weeks, without having a pro account. Just install the app from Android market, and the free trial starts as soon as you login to your regular RTM account.
If I sound vague about how long the free trial lasts for, it's because I upgraded to a pro account 5 minutes after installing the app! Best Android app I've seen.

Excellent news, thanks. I'll try it now!

I hope I could download RTM Android App via another channel
than Google's proprietary Android Market Place.
I'm looking for just *.apk file.
Anyway I'm willing to pay for pro account
because I respect and want to support this web service.

I agree $25 is a small price to pay for a quality task app without all the frills. This is as good as it gets.
jeff.barker says:
Agree this service is worth it. By far the best planning application on the market!

First I was astonished about the price. A "Sync Solution" for 25,- per year seams to be very expensive. But RTM and the Android application is worth it. It's the best task management system I found so far. And the Android apps is almost perfect!
So thumbs up! :-)

@tsasaki : why don't ypu want to download via the Google market?
richard.glover says:
I, too, upgrades specifically for the Android app. So far, it's the best $25 I've spent this year.
This is an excellent service, and the application is really solid. I'm impressed. $25/year is certainly not too much for an application that works where I need it to work, and does what I need it to do, and keeps me organized and on-task.

@benb: tsasaki describes Google's app store as "proprietary", so it's possible that that's their objection? Another I've seen is that the store is apparently blocked in China - RTM+Android users behind the Great Firewall can't use the RTM Android app.

I just downloaded the app to my HTC Magic, and I have to say that the app looks amazing. User Experience was one of the best I have seen in any app, including Google Apps. I somehow stopped myself from buying it right away, wanna try RTM for couple of days before that. But I am afraid everyone who has used the App on their Android already knows whats going to happen :)

I've now 'gone pro' as I've found RTM indispensable in my life - so thanks for that. I still feel that the commercials are wrong though. I micro payment to hook the android users would be a good idea. I was looking for a mobile / online / cloud based task app and I'm so glad I found this one!
Re commercials though - look at something like the flickr model - they have an unrestricted free account , pro users can do more, have more, save more - without adverts. I don't think restricting the access method is the right barrier.
Anyhoo - thanks for making such a great app. I've mentioned you in my blog by the way.. http://www.dragondrop.org/2010/01/id-become-curious-with-phrase-life.htm
