So how is this different from calandar appointments?

I upgraded to PRO because I love the web UI and the iphone combination is killer but i'm starting to realized that any tasks with due dates could just automatically be entered in google calendar. I do have a list for things I could eventually get done but do you guys have any tips on what else to add here that can't really be done in a calendar?
davidbwagner says:
Well, there are two things you can use dates for.
If you are using them for appointments, then you're right, those belong in a calendar and do not belong in a task list.
But if you're using them for a true deadline -- something has to be done BY a certain date but not ON that date necessarily -- then this is more flexible than a calendar. You can use your smartlists to show you all the things you have to get done in the next week. Where would you put info like that on a calendar?

A lot of task/productivity methods will tell you upfront that calendar appointments are not the same thing as tasks (e.g. for the reasons davidbwagner mentions). Tasks being "due by" a date is a different idea than appointments that will occupy your time from one time to another.
Another (powerful) example of how you can use tasks differently than appointments is sleeper tags, as suggested by rajjan on the forums and highlighted on our blog.
