Bug: "End of Month" and repeat "Every 1 month"

jhollington says:
In addition to being rather surprised that there is *still* no way of setting a task to repeat on the last day of every month, I think I've discovered another very odd scenario in the way that repeating is currently implemented.

If I create a task with a due date of "end of month" (which is October 31st right now), and then set it to repeat "every 1 month" what actually happens is that the task will only repeat in months that actually have 31 days.

For instance, when I complete my task for 31 Oct 09, it gets rescheduled to 31 DEC 09 and thereby gets missed completely in November. Continuing to complete the task also skips all other months that have less than 31 days (ie, February, April, June, September).

This is actually a pretty serious bug, IMHO, since it means that recurring tasks might get missed *entirely* by not actually being scheduled for each month. Even a 31-day repeat cycle (such that an Oct 31 task lands on Dec 1) would be FAR preferable to having the task get missed entirely at or around the end of November.

This is a known issue that has come up before, where some workarounds are offered.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks for the response. I was aware that the issue with end of month not always actually *being* the end of the month had already come up.

My bigger concern is that the repeat interval seems to actually *skip* months with less than 31 days. I don't remember seeing that happening before -- I recall that it used to act like an "every 31 days" repeat rather than skipping whole months entirely (so an Oct 31 repeat would land on December 1st, rather than November 30th).

Being off by a day or two is usually less of a concern than missing a month entirely, which is why the current behaviour seems like an even more serious bug.

Skipping months is what happened before (based on the thread I linked to); even though it wasn't explicitly discussed, I noticed that behavior and it is on our list to investigate.
