email to specific list not working
rcamner says:
I've tried to email a task to a specific list using the List:Work (or List:work) parameter. I've placed that at the very top of the body of the email. The task goes into the Inbox and the phrase "List:Work" shows up as a note!
I thought notes had to be preceeded by dashes, and there aren't any dashes before "List:Work" (the quotes are not being used in the email, of course!).
Any help with understanding what I'm missing would be appreciated.

OK, more experimentation turns up the following...
If I have the --- delimiter for notes ANYWHERE in the email, RTM turns everything in the body of the email to a note.
So, in order to use the "send to specific list" or "specify task name" or any other parameter, I have to make sure that there is no --- delimiter anywhere in the body of the email.
Based on the RTM help page on this subject, it doesn't seem that this is how the feature is intended to work. Am I missing something?

Can you post the entire text that you're using to send?
If it's more comfortable for you, you can submit an Emailing Tasks issue report via our support system.
Thanks!

I was trying to use Reqall to email a task. I had Reqall send me the task, and then I forwarded to my RTM email task address after adding the L and T parameters. So, the email received by RTM was the following, set off between asterisks (the asterisks were NOT part of the email received by RTM):
************
L:Work
T:Transitions document
Added to reQall:

I understand why everything below the dashes would be treated as a note...that's how emailing to RTM works. What I DON'T understand is why RTM doesn't first pick up the T and L parameters and process them correctly.
Thanks for your help.

It showed up in my inbox, the task was named Town and the rest was in a note.

rcamner,
For better or worse, the email system is pretty specific. So, while it understands what to do with the L: and T: lines, the three lines above the dashes are sort of just hanging out there with no designation on where to be put, and the line of dashes is not three dashes and not on a line by itself.
Here's what you could try instead:
L:Work
T:Transitions document

The "-end-" bit is me assumin you wouldn't actually prefer to have all that footer information in your note; you can omit if you do want it. :)

Caroline,
It sounds like you wanted each of those lines to be its own task? In that case, you'd want to make sure you're using your import address, e.g. carolinegraham+12345+import@rmilk.com.
If that's not what you wanted, and you wanted one task created, then the subject should be the name of the task, and the list should be signified with the List/L parameter.
Hope this helps! Let me know if I didn't understand how you wanted it to be processed.

Thanks for the response.
Well, I guess it's "for worse..." I'm not sure I understand why RTM can't process incoming emails line by line. I understand why once it gets to the multiple dashes it says "OK, these are notes" and then puts the rest in notes (even though that's not what I want it makes sense and is easy to accept).
I seems the parser is trying to look at the whole thing as a whole, sees stuff that's in the format it's expecting, and then throws up it's hands in despair and gives up doing anything reasonable.
Why not parse line by line and process things according to the understood format until it hits a line that isnt in an appropriate format?
The ability to send transcribed voice notes from the iPhone is a real time saver, but the end user doesn't have control over how those emails are formed, alas.
