Push notifications sometimes work, sometimes don't

chiefsahib says:
Do the tasks created on the Iphone need to be synced with the RTM server for the push notifications to work? I created a few task today while in the subway (no cell phone reception) and set due times along with dates. None of those tasks triggered alerts at the designated times. These tasks weren't synced with the RTM server and were just on my local Iphone.

Chiefsahib,

I think that the answer to your question is yes. You may want to manually synchronize with the RTM server by opening the iPhone program and using the refresh button in the lower left when you leave the subway. This should both synchronize your items to the RTM server and put the items in line for your push "queue."

Hope this helps.

To explain why: RTM has no way to provide notifications when not running. Push notifications are sent from someone (a website/service; in this case, from RTM) to Apple, and then from Apple to your device. So your RTM needs to know about the new tasks in order to set that process in motion.

Also, as long as you have RTM set to synchronize Automatically (the default option), you simply have to open the app; it will synchronize immediately without having to press the Sync button. I also generally recommend that you synchronize manually before exiting, but obviously that depends on you having a network connection. :)

So if I created a task and synced with the RTM server, but at the time the task was due I was out of network coverage, I wouldn't receive the push notification?

chiefsahib: correct - you need to have some form of connectivity (network coverage or wifi) for a push notification to come through to your device.

chiefsahib: jameswfrost: Apple's servers will store the most recent message sent (it stores the most recent message per app) and deliver it when the device reconnects to the network. But they note it is only retained for a 'limited period'. Who knows how long that is.

Hello,
I currently testing the trial version and I do not understand a thing ... everything was working properly until yesterday, but since today, reminders (push) do not work anymore.
I began to find this application very well made, but reminders seem to lack reliability... and this was my main interest !
Does someone has an idea?
Thanks
Please excuse my English... I'm French !! ;-)

pr.popov,
Are you receiving any reminders or other push notifications? Did you check your Reminders Settings on the website?

Did you make any changes to your device in the meantime? (Any network settings, account changes, etc.)
