Gmail/G-Calendar Help
emisme says:
I'm wondering what the differences are and the pros and cons of using:
1) Gmail RTM gadget
2) Firefox RTM extension (obviously this only works with Firefox, so one disadvantage would be not having this functionality on other browsers)
3) RTM's Calendar feed (iCalendar)
Do they all do exactly same thing? Do all of them work on mobile? Allow you to add/edit/delete tasks? What is the advantage of using one over the other?
I've been reading a lot of RTM forums and playing a ton with my Gmail web settings. I'm ultimately trying to synch my RTM tasks with my web Google apps (gmail and gCal) and *most importantly* my iPhone gCal.
Yesterday, I added the iCalendar URL to gCal. On the web, RTM showed up fine in the form of the checkmark next to the day [btw, is there a setting that will show your tasks on gCal without having to click on the checkmark?] However, while my iPhone shows the calendar as being there, no tasks appear. Specifically, in the Day view it says "All Day, Remember the Milk, Tasks for Wednesday (Jul 8)."
I experimented with the gmail RTM gadget on the web. It doesn't appear to show any events in my calendar. It also appears to be buried in the lower left hand screen of gmail (is there a way to change a setting that will move it to, say, the left hand screen like iCalendar feed does?). Any ideas on why the gadget isn't showing RTM tasks on gCalendar (I'm talking about the web version here)?
Having my RTM tasks synched with iPhone mobile g-Cal is probably my biggest goal. I'd love love love to see my events and tasks in one place. It would totally rock my world if I could also update tasks from my gCal in my iPhone. Any help would be VERY appreciated.
Thanks!
PS I should also say that I have the Firefox extension BetterGmail2. Could that be messing with things perhaps? I can provide screenshots of my iPhone if needed. Just learned how to do that! :)

The Gmail gadget and Firefox extension won't do anything for your calendars; they will just show your RTM in Gmail (in two slightly different ways).
What you want is the iCalendar feed, but it sounds like you added the Google Calendar service. The checkmark-on-each-day is a special interface just for Google Calendar.
The iCalendar information is in our Help pages, and we have some specific instructions for Google Calendar.
Once you have your RTM iCalendars visible in Google Calendar, Google has some instructions on how to choose which calendars synchronize to your iPhone.
Hope this helps!

I found out what my problem was! I was subscribing to iCalendar and I needed to be subscribing to "iCalendar (events)." My tasks that are due on a specific day are now showing up in my iPhone calendar which is configured with Gmail. Hooray! Before it just said "All Day, Remember the MIlk, Tasks for X day" and yet didn't list any specific tasks.

Be sure to visit this link andrewski noted above: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=139206. You need to select the calendar(s) you want synchoronized with your iPhone calendar.

Excellent; glad that worked out for you! Yeah, Google Calendar definitely needs the events iCalendar feed.
