How to make tasks show up only when you want them to?

You have stumbled upon a rich vein of discussion here on these boards. This is an oft-requested feature, and there are some common workarounds, some more satisfactory to some than others.
The simplest method is to create a smart list that shows all tasks due within the next seven (you can vary this) days, as well as those that are overdue. I think a smartlist like this should be part of all new accounts to address this very question, in fact.

Whenever I see such recurring themes, it suggest to me the need is really there, or the fact that the UI is confusing people.
I think Smartlists are the lifeblood of RTM, but many users do not seem to use them. Maybe if new accounts had a few smartlists built-in, such as a Next Seven Days list, it would help people see the way these lists can be used to many varied purposes.

I would LOVE the Postpone function to do just this... click on a task, or several tasks... click "Postpone" or shortcut to postpone... the selected tasks would become "hidden" and disappear from lists, all previously scheduled items that were selected will have their schedules temporarily disabled until the task reappears... give us the option to choose when the task/s will reappear; on a specified date and time, or even further, a window of time, for 1 minute, for 2 hours, for 3 days, etc. ... I tried all the others, Things, Omnifocus, Toodledo, bla bla bla and etc etc, You guys are my favorite for your flexibility and functionality & iPhone app and that's why I finally chose to pay for it!!! & Trust me I'm a pretty cheap bastard when it comes to paying for stuff online!
