that is not possible. RTM does offer the ability to create Smartlists based on tags. This can already serve some of the purpose.

So how do people generally get round this issue? The thing I don't want to end up with is too many lists that it takes me ages to work round the interface. it's nice and simple with less lists i think.

I also imagine using smart lists for TYPE of task, e.g. email, call, etc.

Maybe there's no answer! No system is perfect i guess, we all have different needs.

Nevertheless it is great, don't mean to sound like I don't appreciate the app!

I use smartlists to do this but ofcourse that is really personal. It will be difficult to change of course your habit and way of working when you are used to something
