Gears desktop shortcuts
eeyore_cm says:
Every time I load FF I now get asked if I want to allow shortcuts for RTM Gears on the desktop in the start menus and sys tray. Just in the last week.
I've already installed the one I want on my desktop several months ago. Why does it keep asking every time I load.
Any thoughts? I did a quick search And couldn't seem to find anyone else mention this?

This just started happening to me as well. I've had gears for a while with no issues, didn't change anything on my end, and now I'm getting prompted by gears every time I start FF.
david.peacock says:
I think you will find Gears has silently upgraded itself to version 0.3.24.0. This build is compatible with Firefox.
I too got the repeated prompt, and clicked "ignore" option.

Ya, but the issue is that when I first got the prompt I said "I've already installed this" but I did it again anyways, figuring new version or whatever. Now I still keep getting the prompt. FF clears my cache and cookies automatically on exit so I don't think it's a conflict with a previous install, but hey what do I know. Anyone else with this issue?

I get the same problem in IE7, just started this week.
I think the repeated prompt (which I'm getting, yes) is related to this change in Gears (which is probably what david.peacock was getting at):

Presumably they are now relying on the application to check for the existence of the shortcut before calling createShortcut now? At any rate, it would be desirable for rtmilk to accomodate this change in behavior, yes. :)

Unfortunately it's an issue introduced by the latest Google Gears version -- we're looking into this. In the meantime, even if you already have a shortcut, you should be able to tell it to never create one (so the dialog won't appear again, but the shortcut will stay).
boogs says:
Let me know if I can help. We didn't realize RTM was relying on this behavior from the pre-release 0.3 :-/.

boogs, no problem :)
This should be fixed now (so please let us know if anyone experiences any problems).
