Desktop shortcut hangs, doesn't know it's installed.
jeffrey.haemer says:
When I bring up RTM, it asks permission to install a gears-based desktop shortcut, which I grant. (It continues to ask, even though it's there.)
When I use the shortcut, if off-line, it brings up an unpopulated version of RTM, and hangs, forever "loading."
This isn't critical functionality for me. I'm just filing a bug report so you'll know there's a problem.
Ubuntu 7.10, Firefox 2.0.0.13, Google Gears 0.3.13.0

Jeffrey, thanks for letting us know -- we'll check this out (it might be an Ubuntu issue, so we'll do some testing).

I had this issue.
I checked the URL in the desktop short cut. It was http://
I access RTM via https://
Changed the shortcut URL to https://
Problem went away for me :-)

Whoops, good point. Thanks for letting us know, David! We've now fixed this up so that the shortcut created will use https:// if you're accessing RTM via the HTTPS URL.
jeffrey.haemer says:
Thanks. The behavior's now changed!
While it doesn't work yet, I now get a screen that says this:
INTERFACE_DIALOG_GEARS_TITLE
INTERFACE_DIALOG_GEARS_TEXT_1
INTERFACE_DIALOG_GEARS_TEXT_2
INTERFACE_DIALOG_GEARS_TEXT_3
INTERFACE_DIALOG_GEARS_TEXT_4

Ah, I think that might be happening if it hasn't finished preparing the offline version yet. To make sure that it's ready, would it be possible to switch the app to offline mode first (it should tell you once it's ready)? It will also prepare in the background when you load RTM, but this will ensure that it's prepared everything to go offline. It seems like it needs to be prepared to use offline mode before the shortcut will work.
Hope this helps -- if you continue to experience problems, please let me know.
Thanks!
