First, would it be possible to try clearing your browser's cache, restarting the browser, and seeing if the issue continues?

If it still happens, would it be possible to let me know:

1) Which browser and operating system are you using?

2) Do you have any browser extensions other than Google Gears?

3) If you have multiple browsers on your system, does it happen in all browsers or only one?

We can investigate further.

A question or two from the peanut gallery: how many tasks do you have (incomplete and total)?

One idea is to archive all of the completed non-repeating/non-recurring tasks to get them out of the way. That's sped my account up some, I think. (Placebo effect is always possible, I realize.)
