Tagging auto-complete function

bzpilman says:
I really like the auto-complete feature and it's visual appeal, very google-esque.

Though one thing bothers me:
Dead tags are kept as suggestions. That undermines it's efficiency when you have had similar tasks before (maybe you just merely tried a few tags for a given purpose and finally settled for one compact yet informative that you found best)

You would it be possible to have tags no longer being used from auto-complete deleted, even if as an optional setting ?

I was only able to recreate the scenario you described for one dead tag of mine. All other dead tags didn't show-up.

Hmm, would it be possible to check if there are any tasks at all with the dead tag (with a tag:blah search)? It shouldn't auto-complete to tags that are no longer on active tasks, but it will still include them if they're on any completed tasks. (I should also probably note that auto-complete will include any tags used in that session, even if they're not on active tasks -- those tags will be removed once you refresh the app or log out).

Ooh, I didn't know about expiring after reloading or renewing the session, should've have waited till today to find that out =)
Knowing that a hit at F5 does the job is very handy though, so I'm glad I asked.

And one final thing

"... but it will still include them if they're on any completed tasks."

You mean tags on long completed tasks will always remain on auto-complete ?
I think they shouldn't. As it is, everytime I want to change a tag name, it would be better to uncomplete all tags with the old tag and update them, so you don't get clutter tags in the autocomplete hindering it's efficiency. And the fact that you HAVE to uncomplete to do that, instead of just editing a completed task, makes it even worse.

I'm all for both deleteing completed task's tags from RTM's memory altogether, and being able to edit completed tasks.
That's two suggestions in one :)

Yeah, I would love a "purge all completed tasks forever and ever" button. That would be useful and relieving. If Bob could add that feature, my organized crime syndicate might, just might, start using RTM to organize our dirty work and whatnot.
