Repeating tasks stop repeating

rlieving says:
Several of my repeating tasks have stopped repeating without warning or me editing the repeating tasks.

I think the repeat gets cleared when I change the due date, but am not sure. It's REALLY concerning though as I increase the number of tasks.

There is either a bug in the system or I am really doing something wrong. It's getting annoying and concerning as I put in more and more tasks that repeat over longer periods of time.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

rlieving, is there any chance that you're deleting a task in the repeating series? Deleting a task will remove the repeating option (to make it easier to 'kill' a repeating task and stop it from repeating forever). Ideally, it should ask when a repeating task is deleted whether or not the repeating option should be removed -- this is on our to-do list.

If this doesn't sound like what's happening, please let me know and we can investigate further. Thanks!

This has happened to me, too. For me, I know I am deleting the recurring task - I've postponed it enough times that I have gotten to the next occurrence of the task and I complete one and delete the other...

Emily - confirming the deletion of repeating tasks would be really cool!

This has happened to me, too. I wonder if it happens when I complete a repeating task the day before it's due, but I haven't tested the theory, yet.

I should probably have mentioned -- it only happens on the deletion of the task (it's fine to change the due date, complete it early, etc as these won't affect the repeating option in any way). Hope this helps!

My theory didn't pan out - can't predict when it will happen and when it will not, but I just got a spate of about 7 of them this week.

I see this too when deleting an overdue repeating task. I see two tasks (one overdue and one not), and I think that it's okay to delete the overdue one. How can I delete the overdue task without "completing it"?

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
Right now, you can delete the task but you'd need to manually re-enter the repeating option on the remaining incomplete task (or it won't repeat again). We'll be changing this in the future so that it will ask whether or not the repeating option should be removed upon deletion.

Thanks for changing this. Every time I have to re-set the repeating frequency (almost daily, since I keep my completed task list to a minimum), I think your site is broken.

In general, I think you should never change any *details* about an incomplete event because of an *action* on a corresponding complete event. This violates the principle of least surprise.

Any further detail on when "in the future" might be? I'm just bumping this because I had the problem again. Do you recommend, in the meantime, that people not delete completed instances of tasks which repeat?

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
It's on our list (it will likely have to wait until our next app update). In the meantime, yes I'd recommend avoiding deleting completed repeating tasks if possible (unless you wish to remove the repeat option, or want to re-set it again).

Just wanted to note that this has now been fixed (when deleting a repeating task, it will ask whether or not the task should stop repeating). Hope this helps!
