Some mobile app notifications may only be for Pro users. For example, while you're able to receive reminder notifications via email, SMS, Twitter, Skype, Google Hangouts, and more, push notifications are for Pro users only.
I'm not 100% sure what exactly might've been working or not before it stopped, but certainly if you've gone from Pro to free that might explain it.
