Arvid, we've been tweaking how offline mode works. It will no longer automatically switch you to offline mode if you lose your Internet connection (it will only switch if you attempt to perform an action like adding a task whilst offline). Hopefully this will help in your situation.
If you'd like to disable offline mode, you can remove Remember The Milk from your 'Allowed Sites' for Google Gears. Just go to the 'Tools' menu in your browser and then 'Google Gears Settings'. Hope this helps!

I took a look at Firefox' add-on menu for Google Gears, but you can't get to the settings from there. Did not expect an own menu entry for it.
