Cannot Add a Contact AT ALL

No matter how many different settings I try -- different browser, logging out and back in, emptying cache -- I cannot add a contact. It just says in a message "contact.add failed." I AM connected to the Internet. The contact is just an e-mail, and I've tried other contacts and they don't work either.
