I'M OUT!!!

lanternshine says:

I've been using Remember the Milk for our business for several weeks now, happily learning new things about its features as I go along. NO MORE! I set up a separate list for my DH and shared it with our business list. So far, so good. However, it was going to be too complicated with two lists marked "Work," so I created a new list marked "Work - Bill," transferred his tasks to it, and then deleted his "Work" list. However, somehow, the second "Work" tab must have switched places with my primary "Work" tab, or something, because I ended up deleting MY ENTIRE WORK TASK LIST!!! And there is NO BLEEPING BACKUP! I have just lost weeks of work and untold numbers of notes about my customers that I had stored on Remember the Milk. And I can't recover a bleeping thing!!!

No, Remember the Milk is waaaaaaaay to risky to use for business purposes. It's cute, and all, but cute doesn't cut it in the workplace. I'll go back to some sort of "To Do" list that gets backed up that the end of the workday with the rest of my important work and documents.

As the saying goes, "live and learn," but this was a very expensive lesson for me.

At the risk of sounding callous, any system is prone to failure that is introduced by the user. If you had torn up 3x5 index cards at home, by accident, you wouldn't blame the cards, would you?

You can backup RTM via the iCal feeds, and I suspect Emily, Bob, and Omar may be able to help you via their backups. Have you emailed them?

I've used RTM for thousands of tasks for the better part of two years without losing a task, and I think you'll find that's the general experience here.

Good luck retrieving your data.

The tearing up of index cards would only occur due to a deliberate action, not an accidental click of a mouse.

The backup/export instructions do not work on my computer, which the writer anticipated since they included a workaround, but I do not understand the workaround.

lanternshine, I'm sorry that you've experienced problems with Remember The Milk. Our users' data is extremely important to us, and we backup all data in realtime. We've restored your tasks from our backups, and I've followed up with you via email.

Really!?!?! Holy cow! (Oops, pardon the pun). I had no idea you backed up until ranbarton made mention of it in the above post. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm off to find my data....

Well color me gobsmacked! They're all there, just as Emily promised, just sitting pretty in my inbox.

So, please accept my apology for the ig'nunt mini-rant I posted earlier, and count me back in if you'll have me — I'm a convert.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I must go browse my cookbooks for a recipe for crow, since that's what's on my menu for this evening. Although, since I'm a vegetarian, I'll have to make do with crowfu.

This is awesome. Way to go team RTM. I've gotten worse support on products that I've paid for. I don't think this can be emphaiszed enough.
