Google calendar private address

gregheth says:
Your help topics and your forum state that we need to use the public address of our google calendar to synchronise RTM. Can we the "private address" of our Google calendars? (see bottom of Calendar Settings/Calendar Details tab of the main Google calendar)

If not, why not? I'm using a product called mobile master which uses this private address without any problems

Best Regards

Greg, good question. It's actually necessary to make your RTM list public, rather than your Google Calendar. The reason for this is that Google Calendar needs to access your RTM list to display it on your calendar -- however if your lists are private then they're protected with your username/password, and Google Calendar unfortunately can't access them (as it doesn't yet support authenticated iCalendar feeds). So, the only way that Google Calendar can access your list is if you make it public first. Hopefully they will support authenticated feeds in the future so that this isn't necessary.

If you'd prefer not to make your list public, we'd recommend using the newer method of adding the RTM gadget to your Google Calendar. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your prompt reply! Sorry I did not get back to you sooner.

I am having trouble understanding the best (and simplest ) way to set up the Google calendar integration to take advantage of all of the features include SMS notifications.

In particular, I am unclear how to get the Google events appearing as RTM tasks with the corresponding due time and date. I suspect that there is a subscription or feed mechanism that I can use.

Any thoughts?

Greg, sorry I think I may have misread your question.

Are you looking to get RTM tasks to show on your Google Calendar?

Or were you looking at the reverse (showing Google Calendar events in RTM)?

If you'd like your RTM tasks to show on Google Calendar, then you can use the iCalendar subscription (but as I mentioned above, unfortunately it's necessary for the list to be public so that Google can access it). I believe that with this method you can use Google Calendar's notification options to send SMS reminders for your tasks.

Unfortunately the reverse (Google Calendar events in RTM) isn't possibly currently, although we'll be continuing to look at ways that we can provide integration.

Hope this helps!
