focus for keyboard shortcuts in firefox
mathalot says:
This is a very specific problem, and it might be related to Firefox, but I thought I'd ask it here.
I LOVE the keyboard shortcuts on RTM and other services. But sometimes when I've got multiple tabs open in Firefox and I switch to the RTM tab, the keyboard shortcuts don't work until I click somewhere on the page with the mouse. Is there any way to "focus" (if that's the right word) on the current page to use keyboard shortcuts?
Thanks.

mathalot, thanks for reporting this. I think this is an issue that's specific to Firefox -- we've checked into it previously and unfortunately couldn't find a workaround (a mouse click seems like the only way to focus the page). We'll have to look into this again and see if there's anything we can do on our end to prevent this from happening.

Ditto on seeing this behavior. Understandable if there's no work around, but would be nice. =)

I have the same problem and a keyboard shortcut I've found to workaround this is to install the all-in-one sidebar which will bring up the sidebar when you hit F4 (maybe there are other sidebars that do the same). If you hit F4 twice to show/hide the sidebar, you will gain focus on RTM and shortcuts work again.

I noticed that this seems to happen either when you ALT+Tab (in windows) away from firefox or when you use CTRL+Tab to switch tabs. This does not occur with Gmail's keyboard shortcuts in firefox.

One other note - I can reliably reproduce this in Firefox 2.0.0.4 using the following sequence:
- Use j/k shortcuts to move to a task
- Press enter to select that task
- Press 'r' to rename the task
- alt+tab to another window in windows
- alt+tab back to your browser
- Try to use any keyboard shortcuts, they fail.
I have seen this problem happen when not renaming tasks as well so I don't think this is the only scenario that is an issue but this is 100% reproducible for me.
Also interesting is that this also happens when using IE within IETab in Firefox but DOES NOT happen when using IE 7 alone (not embedded in firefox via IETab).

We've done some work to hopefully work around some of the focus issues. anichols, thanks for letting us know about this scenario -- we'll check into this and see if we can fix the issue here.

similar to anichols solution, but hopefully a bit easier:
If you've alt/ctril-tab back to the RTM page, and can't use the key command, hit tab twice.
This puts the focus on the page, and the shortcuts work (this works even with quick find turned on).
