Repeated tasks repeating on wrong day.

ricsto says:
I've noticed several odd issues with tasks lately that are repeating on the wrong day.
I've been using RTM for many years and tasks I'm having issues with are not recent additions and as far as I can tell are not an error on my part.

For example I've a task that is set to repeat every wednesday and sunday and it has arrived in my task list for today (Tuesday). It's never been a Tuesday task so I'm confused why it has arrived today. I'm also looking at other repeating tasks and a task set to repeat every friday is in Thursdays task list even though the task is specifically saying repeat every friday.

I've many tasks that repeat annually and I'm slightly concerned these may have issues.

I only use the webapp on safari and the android app and the inconsistency is apparent on both interfaces.

Any ideas? I'm confused by what I'm seeing.

Hi ricsto,
You may want to review these steps for checking your account's and computer's/device's timezones. A discrepancy there could cause the behavior that you're seeing.

Keep us posted on what you find!

Hi,
Still none the wiser. I've checked timezone settings on the 2 devices I use. Timezone within Safari browser on the Mac is correct at GMT +00:00 London. I can't see a specific setting for Timezone within RTM app on Android but timezone within the android system is set to auto and grayed out setting would seem to be correct at GMT +00:00 London.

I'm also seeing the same behaviour on other tasks. I've a very old and recurring task for "every month on the last Saturday". It's now in my task list as due for this friday!

These tasks are very old. The only thing that has changed recently is UK daylight saving kicked in last Sunday 2.00am where the clocks went back an hour. Not sure whether that has any significance as most of my recurring tasks have been through these daylight saving periods many times.

Hi ricsto,
You may want to try changing the timezone of your Android to a location that doesn't switch from GMT+0:00 at all, like Bissau. It's possible the offset isn't working correctly and is affecting the display of your tasks.

If that doesn't help you may want to change it in your Remember The Milk account and computer also, just to make sure something there isn't affecting your tasks.

When testing, the easiest way is to add a task due at a specific time—"Test timezones ^today at noon"—so you can see any discrepancies more specifically, as the times would be affected by an hour or more if there's a problem.

Keep me posted on what you find and we'll see what we need to do!

Hi Andrewski,
Had a quick play around with various permutations of timezones based on your recommendations. No obvious discrepancy on times when setting tasks.

Based on the issues that I'm seeing it only seemed to affect recurring tasks such as every friday or every month on the last saturday. These now have due days one day prior to the expected due day.

What I'm going to do is either wait until I mark the erroneous tasks as complete and then check whether the next occurrence automatically fixes itself by setting the correct due date for the next occurrence or I'll manually correct the due dates and hope the problem goes away. It's going to be quicker doing this than spending time debugging.

FWIW the issue only seems to have occurred over the last week or so. The only notable changes to my setup were the clocks going back an hour and an update to my Nexus device to Marshmallow.

cheers

Hi ricsto,
Keep us posted on what you find and let us know if this continues at all! The clocks changing is probably what caused this, somehow, but unfortunately it's not clear how that would have happened.

Also, feel free to contact us if you want to discuss by email—specific task details, etc.
