Android icon badge - today's tasks

It's not possible to put a badge directly on the app icon, so the badge widget is definitely the way to set this up.
You can only show a specific list, so you'd just need to set up a Smart List that searches for due:today OR dueBefore:today and then add that as the badge widget.
