RTM distinguishing LIST from TAG?

dennisjaffe says:
I'm new to this ...

When entering a new task and using # to classify it under a new LIST and # to classify it under a new TAG, how does RTM know which # entry is the LIST and which is the TAG?

Thank you!

Hi dennisjaffe,
When using the # Smart Add shortcut, lists must exist beforehand while tags can be created on the fly. If the name you enter after # is the name of one of your lists, the task will be assigned to that list. Otherwise, the name will be treated as a tag: either the existing tag will be applied, or a new tag will be created and assigned.

Tasks can have multiple tags, but can only be assigned to one list.

Hope that helps!

It helps perfectly! Thank you, Brendan. I much appreciate your reaching out.

I read the Getting Started Guide, and hadn't read the information you relayed. Is there a more detailed user manual of sorts to explain things? Is there ever available any webinar, etc. kind of training?

Thanks, I'm still in the early stage of exploring.

Hi dennisjaffe,
That particular detail is explained on our Smart Add page. Our FAQ covers most topics for the service in general and the web app, and each of our services has its own FAQ as well. We don't currently offer any webinars, but we do have some overview videos for some services (with more to come!).

Hope that helps! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out, either here on the forums, or you can reach us via email.

Ommitted is the question of when there is a list and tag with the same word.

Hi gnswec,
In this case, Smart Add will suggest the list name only and not the tag.

Hope that helps!
