Delete a repeating task, but continue repeating

apgordon says:
I have tasks set up in RTM to touch base with old coworkers/acquaintances every X weeks or months. Sometimes the task will pop up in my Smart List, but I've either just talked to the person or it's not a good time, and I want to basically push it another X weeks or months. I know I can hit complete and achieve the same thing, but I like to be accurate about what I mark as completed. Sometimes when I hit delete on a repeating task, it'll ask me if I want to continue repeating or stop repeating the task... but then sometimes I don't get that prompt and I sort of lose the task.

So, what determines if I get that prompt or not? I want to be able to delete but know I'm going to get the prompt so I can say, "Continue Repeating."

Many thanks!

Hi apgordon,
The repeat type determines that; tasks that repeat "every…" repeat on a regular interval, so deleting them prompts that question.

On the other hand, tasks that repeat "after…" only repeat upon completion, so deleting them (since they're not completed) will not prompt whether you want to create the next instance.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other concerns or questions.

Ahhhh. "Whoop there it is!" That's EXACTLY the small detail I was missing -- thanks!

But why does this distinction exists? The question can also be relevant with a 'after ..' interval.

Hi janvanderploeg,
Currently, when using an "after" repeat, the due date of the next occurrence is based on the completion date of the last occurrence. This isn't present when deleting a task.

Thanks for letting us know that you'd like to see this prompt with "after" repeats as well. I'll make sure the development team gets this for review.
