List confusion

Maybe I'm dumb and don't understand the purpose, but: Why can I change all properties of a task but not the list it belongs to?
For example: I press the t shortcut (adding a new task), fire away and hit Enter. Sadly, I missed that I was in the wrong list tab. So an entry meant for "Things to do with SO" lands in "Things to do at work". Now I have to go all the way back to get the right entry in the right place, because I can't change the list it belongs to…
Any solutions/ideas why this must be so and cannot be changedt?

You can move a task to another list using the More Actions dropdown box. Within the dropdown, you'll see a "Move to..." heading, followed by an option for each available list.
Select the task you want to move, then choose the appropriate list to move it.
