Synchronisation between the web and the android app

cseguino says:
When I add a todo in the web interface it does not appear in the android app and when I add a todo in the android app it does not appear in the web interface. Is it the normal behavior ?

brendan says:
Hi cseguino,
No, this is not normal. Tasks should be synced both ways between the Android app and the web app.

I see the support request that you submitted, so we'll be in touch via email as soon as possible on this.

Thanks!

Hi stang2001gurl,
Would you be able to contact us via email as well? We'd love to take a closer look at this.

Thanks!

Similar problem here - app to web works, but not the other way round. I have to say it did work before i had to reinstall the app. Do I need a pro-account to get direct e-mail-support? Or would a pro-account help with the matter?
Posted 12 years ago
brendan says:
Hi stormloki,
You don't need a Pro account to get email support, although Pro users enjoy priority email support.

The sync process between the Android app and the web app should be a 2-way sync whether you're using the standard edition or the Pro edition of the app. Please contact us as well so we can take a closer look.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem on my last Android phone. I had to upgrade my version of Android and I did not bother to reinstall RTM on my cell. I had a series of questions, like if I reschedule a task on my cell does it reschedule on the cloud version, or visa-verse. The same goes for deletions, it seemed to have added back in the deleted items again.

Before I reinstall RTM on my Android phone I would like to understand how the synchronization works.

brendan says:
Hi zarcom,
In the Android app, the sync process is always a 2-way sync. Any changes you make in the Android app (including changing the due date of a task, or deleting a task) will be transferred to the web app. Changes made in the web app will be transferred to your Android device as well.

If this doesn't match the behavior you're seeing, please let us know.

Hope that helps!

Same sync problem here on Nexus S 4g. First time user, adding tasks to the web wont sync with phone however adding to the pone does sync with the web.

The problems above were most likely on my end, I re-installed the app and noticed there were no dude dates on the items that were not syncing from the phone. Added the due dates and syncs as expected now.

I have the same issue. Tasks added via the web interface are not synced back to the phone. Tasks added in the phone are synced back to the web.

I chatted to you about this Brendan via email, finally got around to posting on forums... good (in a way) to see I'm not the only user with the issue! Did anyone resolve this?

I do notice that say I change something in the web interface, my phone is aware of this through push notification and RTM on the android tries to sync. (The icon comes up and says it is syncing.) However, the sync does not succeed. No new items added come back.

Furthermore, here's an odd scenario. Say I create a task in my phone. It gets synced to the web fine. Then I edit this task in the web. Say I change the due date. As soon as I do this in the web, the sync on my phone is triggered. Then the task on my phone totally disappears. It's not there on the day of the new due date, it's not there if I search for it. It's totally gone.

The previous version of RTM, pre version 2, worked fine. I'm running CyanogenMod on a rooted version of my phone, I'd be interested if this is true for the other users having this issue.

Things I have tried:
* Reset RTM
* Uninstalled, restarted phone, reinstalled RTM

Re the odd scenario, same thing happens if I just edit the name. e.g.

* create a task in my phone
- It gets synced to the web fine.
* Edit this task's name in the web
- triggers sync to my phone
- task disappears on phone

I have exactly the same issues as nmather - my device is a galaxy 3 with kyrillos custom rom (rooted). the problem occured fist wenn i updated the rom and had to reinstall the app. I also tried installing the app to my "real" internal storage (sc-card is mounted as additional internal), but this also didn´t work for me...

caseycarpenter,
You should be able to sync tasks whether or not they have a due date. If you're finding that tasks without a due date still aren't syncing, please contact us.

nmather,
Thanks for sending those details. While we're not able to officially support devices that have been rooted or are running unofficial firmware, we'd also be curious to know if this seems to be the source of the problem.

Let us know what you find!

Well I caught a good deal the other day and upgraded to a motorola atrix. Everything is syncing fine now. So I can't really offer any more light on the situation, other than it must be a device specific thing and nothing to do with my account itself. What was the issue between the device and RTM I do not know...

brendan says:
Hi nmather,
Thanks for the update.

Can you tell me if you rooted your new device and installed unofficial firmware on it as well? We're not able to officially support rooted devices, but I'd be curious to know if you were able to sync successfully with the same firmware on a different device.

Thanks!

Hi Brendan,

Nope, I haven't rooted this device or installed any unofficial firmware.

Out of curiosity, why would having root access on your phone make it unsupportable by RTM?
Posted 12 years ago
andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
russ.goerend,
We test the app on a variety of devices and versions to make sure it works well on all of them, but we've seen some odd behavior that only seems to come up on unofficial and/or rooted versions of Android. There's nothing specific that should keep our app from working, and we'll help as much as we can, but we just can't officially support those versions.

Err, wait?! You want to tell me there could be circumstances under which I need an outdated Android OS to use RTM?! Currently I've got an old LG GT540, newest Android by LG: 2.1; I'm running the newest Swiftdroid (Android 2.3.7).

*Imagine whole paragraph of swear words* I came here to eventually spend some money.

(sorry by my English)

I was a pro member for one year, I love remember the milk and I would like to use in my device for my work. But the problem always is the sync, is not working well.

I thought it was a problem of my old device. But now I have a new one, and the first thing I tried was install RTM and try again with the sync process... and is the same... this old one was a Samsung Galaxy Spica with Android 2.2 and now is a Huawei U8650 with Android 2.3... and the problem is exactly the same. The sync is not complete... it appears in android old tasks that i've marked previously as complete in the web, like 2 or 3 days ago...

I would like to back to be a pro member and use RTM in my devices usually, but if the syncing is not working well, it makes no sense...

I hope you find a solution.

Thanks!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II. If I change tasks on the web version, like change the due date of a task it is not changed in my app on my mobile.
It did work well for more than 2 weeks, since I am a customer. But for some reason the synchronization doesn't work anymore.
I did reinstall the app on my phone. Then it did sync well for some minutes, but now again the same problem. Even if I sync manual on my app, the tasks are not sycned.

I allready send an email request about this problem.

Please find a resolution for this!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S II and everytime I synchronize the due dates on the Web are not simular as the due dates on my app. Usually the web date is 1 day later than the one on my app. Very instable and very annoying.

Do you recognize this problem en what to do to solve this?
Posted 12 years ago
andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
Hi ingrid.kruidenberg,
This problem is likely due to some mismatched timezones/locations between the app, your Galaxy S II, and/or the web app. Can you check these steps and contact us at the bottom if this is still happening?

Hope this helps!

Hi Andrewski, how do I check/adjust the timezone in the app?
Posted 12 years ago
andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
ingrid.kruidenberg,
The app doesn't have its own timezone, but you can set the timezone in the web app's Settings (on the General tab). Your Galaxy S II has a timezone also, which can be set in the phone's Settings. Hope that helps!

I'm having the same issues as other have noted. However I was under the impression that if you are running RTM on a mobile device with the free version, synchronization can only happen once every 24 hours. Is this not the case?

I would love to be able to synchronize more frequently. I can't justify the pro version since I just started using this software and I can't sync more often than once every 24 hours. With a 24 hour window, my daily tasks are really only on the device I created them on that that's tough.
Posted 12 years ago
andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
josh.gentry,
You're right; you can sync once in a 24-hour period. We're looking into any issues that seem to be above and beyond that, i.e. when manually syncing, the tasks still don't appear to be synced correctly.

Let us know if you're having any issues!

therese.yarde says:
I'm having this problem too. I've checked and double-checked my time zone. I use the RTM app for Android, and the due dates for items I add from the app show up in the web interface as one day before what they actually are; i.e. if I add a task to the app with a Saturday due date, it shows up in the web interface as having a Friday due date, which means that it syncs to my Google calendar with the wrong date. I'm not sure if the problem occurs the other way round as well (i.e. things added to the web interface sync incorrectly with the app). I'll check tomorrow at my next sync...
Posted 12 years ago
therese.yarde says:
Just for the info of anyone checking this thread: the faulty syncing is only one-way. Things added on the web interface sync to the correct date on the Android app, but things added to the app show up a day early on the web version.

OK in all conversation i can see here, lot of phones are rooted and we have same problem, working on phone, working on web but sync not working. Can we expect some updates where those problems will be solved or we have to give up on RTM and try to find some other solutions?

Thanks and i really hope that RTM will solve problem with sync on rooted phones

andor.luhovic,
We don't currently have any announcements about any updates to the app, but we've investigated each report, including comparing performance between rooted/unofficial firmware and each device's official firmware.

If you are continuing to have any problems, would it be possible to contact us so we could investigate what's happening currently? Thanks!
