Embarrassing: the most basic of the basics

I simply want to have to-do lists for "Shopping," "Groceries," "Errands," and "Work." But.
But I can't figure out how to execute the simple idea of making a list of possible grocery items, and leaving the items I currently need as "unchecked." Then, as I buy an item, checking it off.
RTM seems to demand a "due date," but what if I don't want a due date? I don't want to keep editing a particular item to change the date! I just want to check it off, or uncheck it!
I was using Astrid, but Astrid and Google simply will not allow you to keep items in alphabetical order! (Astrid allows you to "Sort," but that's too advanced for Google, apparently. You can sort in Astrid to your heart's delight, but Google then puts things in any old order, entirely capriciously, and when you sync with Astrid, Google "rules." And I thought computers could sort alphabetically or numerically.) Amazing!!

Tasks in Remember the Milk can be created without a due date. If you are using one of the mobile apps, you may want to check the Default Due Date for new tasks in the app Settings. This may be assigning a due date to your new tasks automatically.
In the Android app, you can find this setting by pressing Menu, then More, then Settings, then Tasks. Set the Default Due Date to "Never" to create new tasks with no due date.
Hope that helps!
