RSS vs Atom

roger.walter says:
I'd really like to get the RSS feeds up and running in google reader and my mail.app on my mac.

The Atom Feed doesn't have any details, other than dates, and a link to the RTM site. Sometimes I'd like to see the details because often I've just forwarded an email and the title doesn't give enough details. (perhaps I need to clean up this habit, but I like knowing the original email topic so I can find it again....)

The RSS feed gives me all the relevant info, but it's not updating. I spent time yesterday doing some work, moving stuff from the inbox to my various folders, but still my RSS feed says I have 19 things in my inbox (it's zero)

So.... Any ideas? Can we get the details in the Atom feed? How do we update the RSS feed?

The other thing I notice happening in apple's mail app - once the task is in there, it never goes away - I am using the ATOM feed for the mail.app.

In other words, I enter an item in RTM and it shows up in the atom feed in mail. But then when I complete the item, it doesn't go away. In fact, I have things from days ago. It's as if the atom feed only adds items.

This is also true in Google Reader.

Both the Atom and RSS feeds reflect the current state of your task list at all times. You can verify this by loading the feed directly in your browser and looking at the output. Completed tasks will not be included at all in either feed.

However, how often the feed is checked for new information by the feed reader, or how updates to the feed are handled in each reader I'm not able to say. It's possible that, as you said, the feed reader will not update items it has already read, and will not remove items that are no longer present in the feed. This behavior is decided by each reader.

Hope that helps.

It's not working that way in google reader. In fact, with either the ATOM or RSS feeds, once it's there, it stays there forever. If it's completed, deleted or whatever. It's still there....

A little more clarification - the feeds don't update for days, or even up to a week. I will get new feed entries, but when an Item is completed, or deleted it doesn't take it off the list. Therefore, as an active place to at least watch my lists, they are totally useless....
