Non-English dates show in drop-down, but not understood

daniel.hershcovich says:
My Android system language is Hebrew, and so when I open the drop-down list of dates when entering a task, I see things like "יום שלישי" (Tuesday).
However, if I select that date, it simply appends "^יום שלישי" to the task name, and RTM does not understand that as a date.

I guess this is related to the request for interpretation of non-English dates, but until that issue is resolved, the dates in the drop-down list in the Android app should be English dates instead of dates given by the OS.

Unfortunately, the Android app is not currently supported in Hebrew. A list of the languages currently available can be found here under the Languages section. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your reply!

My interface language in RTM is English which is fine, but my OS language is Hebrew.

The app works perfectly as far as I can tell, except for this dates issue. It would be great if it could be fixed.

Hi there,

This issue affects Chinese too. The problem is, the weekday names in the Due Date drop-down list get localized, however, if we choose them and use them as "quick-add task" component, RTM will not understand those localized weekdays. Therefore, I might suggest that the RTM app can de-localize those weekdays, just like "today", "tomorrow" which are kept in English, so that RTM will recognize them.

I don't think this issue has to do with whether the app is supported in which languages :) Rather it's a handling problem I guess :) So I think Daniel is having a good point here which is worth considering :)

Cheers,

I just found that this issue is not limited within the Android app, but the RTM Web site also has this problem.

See, while I'm using the Traditional Chinese interface of the site, most UI strings on the task lists are already localized, including the weekday names. But the problem is, when adding a task from the "Add a new task" input field, entering "^" and Chinese weekday names "星期二" "星期三" etc. would appear and be inserted. However, after pressing Enter, the Chinese weekday names are not parsed as due dates but "^星期二" is treated as part of the title of the task. Can you see the problem now?

On Android too, this is happening because although the interface is in English, but the weekday names are still localized because the language of my phone is English.

Of course I can change my Web site setting and phone language to English... But I don't think that's the only solution.

Thank you for considering this.

milchflasche,
Regarding the day names in the web app, would it be possible to submit a Smart Add issue report via our support system so we can get some additional details on this?

Just select your issue from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, click on "I'd like to report a new issue".

Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.

Thanks!
