"Always Use HTTPS" causes RTM to go offline
If I enable "Always Use HTTPS" it seems to work, but the next session with the Remember The Milk 'local website' will be offline (you know, where you start RTM via the Start menu item). I then cannot connect with it - it just says I have no connection. I also notice "Always use HTTPS" is set to Off there where in reality it is On, and it's greyed out (because I'm offline) so I can't change it.
If I then login via the website via my browser I can switch "Always use HTTPS" off and connect again.
So, in short, it seems that the RTM startmenu item has an issue with Always use HTTPS? For your info, the target of my start menu shortcut item:
C:\Users\James\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --app="http://www.rememberthemilk.com/offline"

I'm experiencing this exact same problem.

I have the same issue. Thanks for posting this Jamesr404 as I didn't realize that was the problem. Now have to figure out how to un-do "always use HTTPS" while awaiting a response/solution from Bob.

Fixed! I logged off. Then (I'm using Google Chrome), went to Tools/Options/Under the Hood/Clear Browsing Data/Obliterated "Browsing History" and "Cache." Logged back in; Worked!

I did that browsing history clear thing. It does work, but the problem comes back.

Would it be possible for anyone still experiencing this issue to submit a Google Gears issue report via our support system, if you haven't done so already?
Just select your issue from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, click on "I'd like to report a new issue".
Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.
Thanks!

I'm experiencing the same problem with Chrome and going to issue a report.
What makes it particularly annoying is that I'm forced to choose between a good user experience (no HTTPS) and security (HTTPS always on).
