Complete a task "in the past"?

patrickchan7 says:
Hi,

I tried doing a search but just can't seem to find the relevant info.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if I want to create a task and set it to be 'completed' in the past? How do I go about doing it?
E.g. If you just created RTM account, and want to add tasks that you have completed in the past.

It seems like it is currently impossible!

(This may be due to the fact at RTM is a multi-user application, and maybe it doesn't want people to alter past, completed records. But this is a just a guess, I may be wrong, because technically, there is no restrictions to alter completed tasks. It's a database after all.)

Thanks!

patrickchan7,
There are two things at work here: it's not possible to edit the completed date for a task, and it's not possible to edit completed tasks. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your response, Andrew, much appreciated!

I just wanted to provide feedback that its more 'user-friendly' and creates more goodwill amongst your users if you could give a simple reason as to why feature X can't work.

If I had known why feature X didn't work, I could tell others "RTM can't do X, because of this particular reason..."
Please contrast this to if I didn't know why it was the case, and instead tell my peers or post a blog that says something to the effect of "Don't use RTM, because RTM cant do X!".

BTW, I'm not ranting, I'm just trying to make RTM a better experience for all. ;)

Thanks Patrick; we really appreciate your feedback! This topic by Emily explains our reticence on such features.
