Delayed responsiveness, high CPU usage when adding/modifying tasks

Hi there,
I've been using RTM for over three years and rely on it heavily; however, I've been experiencing some major issues with the web app lately with regard to it hanging and sucking up CPU cycles.
At this point I have several thousand completed tasks and ~250 incomplete items in various lists. I have running 21 lists (several archived) and 32 smart lists (again, several archived). I don't know if the various lists are the cause of my issue, but this problem has worsened considerably over the last 3-4 months, so I'm skeptical. At this point I'm constantly refreshing the RTM tab to help alleviate the problem, but it never really disappears.
I use the most recent stable version of Chrome in OS X 10.6 (no Gears) on a 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo-powered macbook with 4GB of RAM—which, as far as I'm concerned, should provide ample processing speed for this app.
Any suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
mediaarts

If you haven't done so already, would it be possible to submit a Logging In & Loading issue report via our support system?
Please select the issue that you're experiencing from the list on the left, and follow the steps shown. If your issue isn't listed, just click on "I'd like to report a new issue" on the left.
Your report should provide all the info that we need to investigate further, but we'll be in touch via email if we require any more details.
Thanks!

Hi mediaarts,
You mentioned on Twitter that you'd like to discuss it here on the forums; that's fine with me. :)
Aside from Gears, there are a few other things that may be affecting this.
First, it might be worth trying to access the site via the secure HTTPS URL: https://www.rememberthemilk.com/ It's not likely that will make much difference, but it's an easy thing to try. :)
Also, would it be possible to try clearing Chrome's cache and cookies, restarting the browser, and trying again?
If that doesn't help, you may want to try opening an Incognito window in Chrome (where extensions, cookies, and cache are not used). You can find more details about Incognito mode on Google's help site for Chrome.
Also worth checking is to compare Chrome's performance with Safari's; they should both be pretty comparable, and finding out if they act the same will help determine if the problem is something in your browser or perhaps something account- or data-related. (It would be worth checking Firefox also, but I know you have Safari installed in OS X. :)
Lastly, this can often be a problem because of proxy servers or internet security software. If possible, you may want to see if something on the particular network is causing a problem, e.g. by trying to connect on a different network.
Let me know what you find and we'll see if we need to do anything else!
