at the top of the task page what are the tabs called work , personal etc

Those are regular lists and can be deleted, edited etc in Settings/Lists.

If you use the A Bit Better RTM add on, you can move the list to the left side of the page and drag and drop the lists in any order you choose.

There are add ons for both Firefox and Chrome.
