How can I de-select a task automatically after performing a task?

This is driving me crazy...
After I selected a task and perform a task on it, such as changing the due date, the task is still selected but may be pushed further down the list if it's sorted by due date. But I keep forgetting that the task is still selected, so I select another task and perform an action, such as postpone, which will postpone both selected tasks, and effectively change the due date of the first selected task.
I think it's really counter-intuitive to have the task still selected after performing a task. I know it'll come convenient if I need to perform multiple tasks on the selected tasks, but this is rather rare for me.
So I think there may be a setting that you can turn this on or off. But I could not find one.
