Due Dates Change in Different Time Zone

(closed account) says:
I recently made my first trip with my Android phone and noticed all the due dates on my tasks changed to one day earlier when I traveled west by two time zones. Is there a workaround for this? It is rather inconvenient to plan your activities before you start a trip only to find that all your hard work has been changed. The Android is, after all, mobile.

Hi neilkrey,
Unfortunately RTM doesn't currently support shifting timezones; when a due date is set in one timezone, the task will be due at the start of that day (i.e., midnight) in that timezone. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You may find that leaving the tasks alone works in some cases (if possible), but if not, you should be able to reset the due date/time (by entering it the same way again).

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Maybe in the future?

Hi andrewski. Been thinking about this. You say that a new task - even though it has no time associated with it - is set to be due at the start of the day. If instead it is set to be due at midday (noon) there would be a 12 hour cushion when changing time zones. Just a thought...

I got the same bug on my iPhone RTM app, travelling from +10 to +8 time zone. When I came back, the tasks on my iPhone changed back to their correct due dates, but all the tasks on the web GUI started showing up as due one day earlier than they should be, possibly because daylight savings had started in my home time zone while I was away, so I actually travelled from +10 to +8 to +11.

I finally got the tasks on both the iPhone app and the web interface to have correct due dates again, by setting my time zone in the web settings to +11, and then postponing all tasks by one day.

Has there been any progress made on fixing the shifting time zone bug? Are there any plans to fix it in the near future? This is a big inconvenience for people who travel a lot. I think neilkrey's suggestion is a great idea for a quick fix that can probably be implemented fairly easily, even though it wouldn't work for travelling further than 12 hours from your home time zone.

Simply rebooting the phone fixed this issue for me.

just discovered this fun little bug going from central (-6) to pacific (-8). thankfully i was only gone a couple days and didn't really need to use RTM while gone. rebooting the phone did not work for me. everything went back to normal only after i returned to central time.

wondering now though, what would happen if i changed my timezone in settings to pacific right before i left? would that have worked as a workaround?

I also just ran into this problem when traveling from the east coast to the Texas. It is rather inconvenient. I use RTM frequently both from the webapp and my Android phone. That change in time zones made a big mess of my day tomorrow and Wednesday. I don't understand why due dates are stored with a time. The problem would not occur, if it were date only. This is also, what at least I as user need. If I need to get a task done on November 8th, it should be November 8th regardless of whether I'm in Boston, Munich or Bangalore.
