Is it possible

anordine says:
I have RTM set up so that each project is a list. I use a naming convention so that all my personal lists start with one abbreviation, work lists start with another, and so on. Sometimes I'd like to just get a listing of all tasks I have to do in one category. I currently do that by adding a tag, but doing that is cumbersome. Is there a way to create a smart-list that grabs tasks from all _lists_ matching a given pattern/regex?

Thanks!

No, unfortunately not; what you basically want is a listContains:* search operator, but we currently only have a tagContains:* one. Sorry. :(

If it's possible for you to reorganize your tasks by tag, this suggestion I offered another user would work. (You could keep your list tabs by then creating Smart Lists for each tag/project.)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response. I find working with lists more comfortable than tags (working with tags for projects just exacerbates the problem I cited above), so I'm afraid the tags thing won't work real well for me. I love the flexibility and usefulness of tags, but I find item entry arduous when so many tags/attributes need to be affixed to an item.

For some reason, RTM treats the list as much more permanent than a tag and very much limits its potential. I'd be very interested in RTM exposing via the web interface some of the flexibility that clearly exists for lists via the API.

Having said that, thanks again for the quick response. If I could vote for that "list-contains" feature and for easier list deletion, I would.

All the best!
