Due dates, recurring and comleted items

This is more of a "what's the best way" question.
If I have tasks like "take out the garbage" that recurs every week on Thursday, should I give that task a due date/time? It seems like I would have to click "complete" every time I actually did the task, or else the task won't appear next week on Thursday, and it will look "over due".
So, do you give a due date/time to everything, even the menial recurring tasks? And do you click complete everything you do, or do you just keep them in a list as a general task list?
This is probably a stupid question, but I'm just trying to figure out the best setup. Thanks.

How about creating tags for the days of the week and tagging undated tasks with the tag for whichever date it is. Then you could just click on the tag in the cloud for "Thursday" and you'd see the menial stuff you do every Thursday. If you don't "Complete" them then they'll just stay there and be ready for you next Thursday.
Also, I suppose if you don't put your garbage out on Thursday and the truck comes around on Thursday then there isn't much point in the task showing up as overdue on Friday. Too late! You missed your window of opportunity. So it could work for things that it's no use having show up as "overdue".
Alternatively, put them on your calender rather than your to do list if you know you'll check that too.

In addition to echarles's suggestions, you could also set the task to repeat "after 1 Thursday", which would mean that if you didn't take the trash out for two weeks (aside from a growing smell) you wouldn't have two tasks, just one.
As for whether to complete everything you do versus keeping a general list, that's probably up to you, but you should be able to make it work either way!
Hope this helps!
