Android 2.2 notifications bar and rtm

I set up reminders and get email and text reminders but how do I get rtm to put its reminder icon in my notifications bar? I am coming from the iPhone where it had the badge with the number of tasks due.
I thought that the notification bar would be the substitute for that functionality. Is that not correct or is there just something I am not doing?

In the Android app's Settings, under Reminders, you can find the option for "Reminder Display", which you can set to show reminders in the notification bar.
