showing repeating tasks for today on smartlist

amitoe says:
hi, I'm new to RTM and was wondering if i could get some help~

I have "Today's action" smartlist which shows tasks due today.

I want my weekly events like yoga class on Thursday and study meetup on Wednesday etc. to show up on this list. but i dont know how to do a search to find repeating tasks that happens today. I couldn't find any search options for "repeating day"..

how can i make tasks repeated today(not "due" today) to show on my 'today's action' list? thanks a lot!

There's nothing special about repeating tasks in this sense. Tasks that fulfill a smart list's criteria show up, others don't.

If a repeating task is due Wednesday, the first instance is due Wednesday and will show up on Wednesday on your Today's action list.

I'm not sure what you mean by a task repeated today as opposed to a task due today? Can you give an example of what you mean? (Do you mean, when you're looking at tasks on a Monday, a task that is due this Thursday is also set to repeat next Monday, thus you want to see it?)

oops i think what i meant to say was unclear. sorry i'm not really familiar with the features yet. ;o;

for example for an event that repeats every Monday, i would set Repeat: every Monday. and set due date Today(29th of March.). then once it becomes Tuesday, I want the event's due date to become next Monday, thus 5th of April but it would still remain the 29th of March.

so i thought if i cant make it change it's due date every time, i would like to do a search that can show tasks that are repeated on today, or monday.. etc.

i just realized that once i "complete" a repeated task it shows up again with a new due date. but what if i couldnt complete it this week but still want the new one to show up? i actually dont want the old one since for a repeated task, if i missed this weeks yoga class, it's not like i can do it again till next week.

it seems still confusing, but would this help?

If a task repeats every week, the new instance is created at midnight (00:00) regardless of if you complete it or not.

The only way to get rid of the task (old or new instance) is to complete it or delete it (then you get a question if you want to keep repeating the task).

As rajjan pointed out, you get different results for a task that repeats "every…" or "after…". More details on our site.

Personally my habit if I fail to complete a repeating task that can only be done on that day I delete it and say "Yes" to the "continue repeating?" prompt, so it only deletes that instance of the task. I'd prefer some way to mark it "failed to complete", but unless and until that happens, I tell it "delete but repeat."
