Include the past in relative dates

I'd love to be able to use relative dates that extend into the past. Clearly RTM queries and smart lists allow relative dates in the future (e.g. dueWithin:"1 week of today"). To enable relative dates in the past could be as simple as allowing negative numbers to affect these expressions appropriately e.g. (dueWithin:"-1 week of today") would produce a list with tasks due less than 1 week ago.
