I saw someone mentioned FLYLady on another thread. I am a FLYbaby also. How many people here are using RTM for FLYing? I would love to hear how you have setup your routines and your Zones, etc. Maybe we can share ideas.

Hi There -

I have been a FlyBaby for years. Here's some of the ways I use RTM to FLY.

I have a list called Flylady. Within that list, I have tags for my routines and my zones.

These are my tags for my routines -

am_routine
afternoon_routine
daily_routine
pm_routine
weekly_routine
home_blessing

On the am, afternoon, and pm routines, I'll do a tag search where those items are listed by themselves. For example I'll choose the afternoon_routine tag, and this is what I have listed -

1.AFT.Purge Car/Check Trash/Mail
2.AFT.WalkLydia
3.AFT.Correspondence/Online
4.AFT.B/B (this stands for budget/bills - a reminder to handle/record/file these)
5.AFT.HomeBlessingTask
6.AFT.WorkOut

I have them set to repeat every day. If I don't get something done, I just delete it, & start over the next day. This applies how Flylady tells us to not feel like we're behind, but to just start where we are.

The daily_routine and weekly_routine tags are not numerically ordered. My goal is to get those tasks done sometime during the day.

Because Remember The Milk saves every task I've ever done, I can check completed tasks to see how I'm doing with routines. I can see when I'm falling too far off the wagon :-).

For the zones, I typed in the whole list for each zone, with modifications for my own living situation. This is a great project to do on a day off; but once all those items are in for your zones, it is a huge help in the long run. The length of time it takes to front load all the zones in RTM is worth ease of use later.

To get the zone items to repeat, I simply have each task repeat every five weeks. Each zone is set to roll over a different week. zone_three is due this Sunday, zone_four January 3rd, and zone_five January 10th. zone_one is due next on January 17th. zone_two is due January 24th.

This means my zones are not rolling exactly with the Flylady's zone schedule; however, she offers us the flexibility to adjust things to work individually. She encourages us to tweak her system to whatever works best. This is what has worked for me.

The weekly_routine tag has tasks for my weekly routine. I just set individual tasks to repeat on certain days every week - examples - every Thursday is the grocery store, every Monday is laundry, etc.

My home_blessing list repeats every Sunday. Flylady says we can do the home blessing hour all in one day, or spread it out over the week. I'm a spread it out over the week kind of person ;-) Each Sunday, I'll clear whatever hasn't been completed under that tag, & start over. Sometimes, I'll cross something off a day early on Saturday.

In all of the Flylady stuff, I will allow myself to do something before or after it is due, if there are unusual circumstances in my schedule.

Have I been accomplishing absolutely everything perfectly? Well, no. ;-) I consider the Flylady list to be an ideal to strive for.

I have been using RTM since 2011. At the end of each year, RTM sends me a message saying how many tasks I have accomplished for the year. Each year, I try to up my daily average of completed tasks.

I don't just use RTM for Flylady, I also use it for the rest of my life as well. :-)

Someone may have some wisdom out there to improve upon what I'm doing - I'd love to hear some ideas. This is just some of what I've done.

Happy Flying!
