I'm wondering if it would be practical for the Android app to sync changes made in the app immediately, rather than waiting for the next sync interval? This would make it more practical to use a longer sync interval to save on battery without worrying about changes made in the app not being available when I sit back down in front of my computer.

I realize this may generate more sync traffic, but perhaps it could be setup to only sync after leaving the app, or waiting until there have been no changes for a small interval such as 30 seconds.
