site display problems

Noting here that when I access https://www.rememberthemilk.com/forums/help/ the site displays properly. However, when accessing http://www.rememberthemilk.com/forums/help/ (without the secure transfer), the css for the site is not being called, leaving the page to display as unformatted html. I have no problems with any other site. This is via Firefox...

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I also have posted that when using firefox or IE to access http://blog.rememberthemilk.com, the site doesn't display as connection to server is taking too long and page gets reset. Page displayed fine previously for the year I have used it.

The blog problem may be something on your network, but the CSS problem may be something else.

If you haven't tried yet, could you clear Firefox's cookies and cache and try again?

Also, does this happen if you load the site in safe mode?

The problem persists for both blog and http view of rtm site. All links from site (in https) work fine except blog link. Using http to access front page of RTM (not logged in) results in plain html/no css. Switch to https and it's fine. Blog -- cannot access in IE or Firefox.

Have: cleared cookies, cache; restarted; used both firefox and IE browsers, run network diagnostics (no problem). I also have tested in both safe mode and normal. No change. Rebooted computer, also.

I am online all day due to nature of work. I have no problems anywhere else, which leads me to conclude it's RTM-based problems not computer specific. But???

Any ideas? Any problems in others use????

It sounds like it may be something on your computer/network that's blocking the content. This can often be a problem because of proxy servers or internet security software. You may want to see if something on the particular network is causing a problem. (At work, it may be necessary to consult your IT department.)

I have the same problem from two machines. When I View-Source on the html, the CSS link is: http://1.static.rememberthemilk.com/css/rtm.6.css

This gives me a 404 from one network, but works from another. Very odd. And from that other network, the CSS is static....rtm.1.css. It does not work on my "bad" network.

So it appears to be network-related. Just sayin'.

More:
The 1.static.rememberthemilk.com maps to different sites given the source:
"Bad":
Name: wac.edgecastcdn.net
Address: 72.21.91.19
Aliases: 1.static.rememberthemilk.com
wac.1398.edgecastcdn.net

"Good":
1.static.rememberthemilk.com canonical name = rememberthemilk.edgesuite.net.
rememberthemilk.edgesuite.net canonical name = a1907.g.akamai.net.
Name: a1907.g.akamai.net
Address: 65.200.11.162
Name: a1907.g.akamai.net
Address: 65.200.11.154

"Bad" is in Laek Forest, CA (Orange County). "Good" is FiOS in Murrieta (Riverside County).

Go figure.

bjmckenz,

Aha, it looks like your network is trying to load the CSS from our old CDN (we no longer use Edgecast for content delivery). We switched over to Akamai for content delivery about a month ago, but bugs in some routers can cause them to cache addresses and try to access the old location.

Would it be possible to restart your router and see if this fixes things up? You might also need to restart your browser after this.

sunni.freyer,

In case you have a similar problem, would it be possible to restart your router too?
