Gmail plugin bug report: Problem typing in Japanese
jojola says:
Where are we supposed to post bug reports?
I can't believe I could not find the bug tracker, is there one?
Typing in Japanese requires to type phonetically (hiraganas), press to transform into a list of actual kanjis, and then to select the right kanji. 99% of Japanese people use this system, and there is the same system in some other countries.
The problem is that Gmail's plugin seems to intercept the key and add the task immediately, before I had any chance to write the complete task.
For instance, if I want to add: 部屋の掃除 (heyanosouji = clean the room), I enter heya, and before I have time to type の and 掃除, the input area is empty and a new task has been adding that just says "room".

Thanks for reporting this. Which operating system are you using?
jojola says:
Linux Ubuntu 9.10, with Google Chrome 4.0.302.0 (36505)
Thanks for caring :-)

Pardon my unfamiliarity, but can you let me know your language/keyboard settings that allow you to type this way? I'm not familiar with Japanese's use in Ubuntu.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I use Ubuntu 9.10's default input method, which uses "Anthy" and "iBus".
The bug appears with a standard English QWERTY keyboard, and probably with any keyboard. Japanese input only requires the 26 latin letters and Space and Enter.
If you have Ubuntu (live CD probably works as well) then just go to Administration->Language-Support, Keyboard&InputMethod and select iBus. When you want to type in Japanese, press CTRL+Space.

Hm, I can't reproduce that. When I press Space to select the kanjis, the focus doesn't change; I get the second choice and then the dropdown list of alternatives.
That said, I've added it to our list to investigate.
By chance, do you have this problem in Firefox too (where the add-on is also available)?
