Tag completed tasks

I found this (now closed) topic

It has been a year and you still can't modify the tags for completed tasks. Is there any chance that this is going to change? It greatly impacts the ability of users to improve their organization as time passes. I don't want to modify the completed date if I can avoid it since it provides a useful record.
Sometimes I create a dedicated list for a specific project but after everything has been completed, I move the tasks into another (higher level) list. It would be great to be able to apply the tags to the completed tasks and then move the completed tasks.

tap tap tap... is this thing on?

Hi. I'm not sure why you can't modify tags for completed tasks. When I go to one of my lists (with no tasks selected) and click on the completed link in the details box, the completed tasks appear. Then when I select one of the completed tasks I am able to change the tags.

I just moved back to RTM from another system this past week due to the Android support. I add tags to my completed tasks every week as part of my weekly review and I just tried to do this after seeing this thread. I can NOT do this, either - the task is pretty much read-only except for being able to add notes. This is not good at all.
@Leah, I tried doing what you described from both a smart list and my Inbox where I keep all tasks and neither one of them let me add tags to my completed tasks.

benster,
Sorry to hear that it isn't working for you. I don't think that one of the RTM user scripts I use on the web site is making a difference, but maybe it is. You can find scripts at Userscripts.com (search for Remember the Milk), maybe one there can help you.

@leah
What browser are you using? Are you able to tag completed tasks at this very moment? :)

@Leah - thx for the reply. I can't imagine that a user script would make a difference since it looks like RTM doesn't support it. There's no tag icon next to the tags in a completed task. I don't know what's going on with your tasks and I hate to be that guy, but are you *sure* that you're changing the tags on completed tasks and not other ones that aren't completed yet?
What I'd love to see is a response by RTM to just flat out answer the question. I don't care about a 'roadmap' or anything at this point - I just need to figure out what to do before my weekly work review tomorrow. I guess I can put some information in the notes of the completed tasks to search by later on but that's far from perfect due to the possibility of having tasks returned for a search that just happen to have a word or two in their note that I'm searching for.

Hi benster,
Please review our Ideas forum guidelines on questions about upcoming features and why we can't address them.
The post binaryeric initially linked to gives a workaround that you may find useful for your weekly work review.

I looked at the other post - uncompleting the task, modifying it and then completing it again is not a viable option. Losing the initial Completed Date is losing critical information.
I'm well aware of your stance on commenting on future features and it's one of the reasons why I moved away from RTM at one point. The reason I asked for a response was because we have a user who says that this actually WORKS for them. I was trying to clarify the current state so that I could decide what I was going to do. I'm not even going to try to read anything into what you said - I simply wanted to confirm that you cannot currently change the tags on completed tasks.

benster,
Sorry for the delay in my reply to you. I am currently using Firefox 3.5.5 on a Windows machine and I am NOT able to tag a completed task. I can view the tags on the completed task and sort by them (as well as location), but not edit/add/delete them.
Maybe when I posted earlier I was at home on my Mac (the time I posted suggests that). I will try it on a Mac later and re-post to the forum.

Hi again @benster,
I just tested it on a Mac running Firefox 3.5.4 and I cannot change tags there either. I don't know why I could briefly edit/change the tag but I can't anymore. Sorry for getting your hopes up.

K - thx for the info. I'm having to use Notes for adding metadata to a completed task for now and that's not ideal. Hopefully at some point this will be fixed/added.
