Unused tags appear in the android tag list

davidbwagner says:
If I have a tag that is not assigned to any tasks, it still appears in the tag list on the android. It would be nice if it would not appear, it gets in the way. You could argue that the tag list on android is analogous to the Settings > Tags on the web, but I don't think that true because the main purpose of the tag list on android is navigational, not to manage tags. I think the tag list on android is more analogous to the tag cloud on the web app.

Of course that means you'd have no way to delete an unused tag from the android app; you'd have to spin up the web interface to do it, but I don't see that as a major problem.

Give me a tag cloud screen on android and I'll happily shut up. :-)

Unused tags may not remain so; a "grocery" tag may get a lot of use once a week, but remain unused the other days.

As for editing your tags from the Android app: long-tap on the tag name, tap Edit Tag, press Menu, and select Delete tag. No need to switch to the website. :)

Aha, I didn't know there was a menu available on that screen.

However, I've found a genuine bug: not only unused tags, but also tags that have been deleted from the webapp appear on the android app. It seems like a bug that I should have to do the delete dance in both places.

I've found that too. I somehow had two tags created on the web app (work12 and home12) which don't show up in the web app (no tasks or completed tasks use them) but the android app has them in the list. Tried the long-press thing on the tags list, but no menu popped up.

Whoops, turns out I did have a task left over with those tags. All is well.

I think it's a genuine bug too: I deleted a tag in the webinterface, but it was still in the RTM-for-Android app. To my knowledge there wheren't any tasks with that tag (searched for "(status:completed or status:incomplete) and tag:tagname", resulting in no tasks)

Thanks for the work-around though: I hadn't thought of using the menu-button when editing the name either (it would have been more logical if there was a delete-option under the edit-option when long-pressing a tag).

Agreed.

@miels: FYI, if you mix the status of completed and incomplete in a search, it won't show you all the tasks in one view - it will show only incomplete tasks with the link for you to switch to completed tasks.

Best way to check if a tag has any tasks is just to keep it simple - search for "tag:xyz" - then see if there are any tasks, or if the link xxx completed has a number in.
