Errors in iCalendar(Events) creation
bergadario says:
Hi everybody,
while importing my task list to Google Calendar I noticed a problem in the iCalendar creation. For example, let's say I create this task:
Corso di Fotografia
Due: Fri 6 Nov 09 at 9:00PM
Repeat: every 1 week
Time estimate: 1hr 30min
Tags: none
Location: Centro Sociale Marina
URL: none
Postponed: 0 times
Shared with: no one
Notes: 0
Looking at the iCalendar event code I can see this:
BEGIN:VEVENT
DTSTART;TZID=Europe/Rome:20091106T210000
DTEND;TZID=Europe/Rome:20091106T220000
RRULE:FREQ=DAILY;INTERVAL=7
DTSTAMP:20091106T225958Z
UID:FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF77558499
CREATED:20091105T232912Z
DESCRIPTION:Time estimate: 1hr 30min\nTags: none\nLocation: Centro Sociale

LAST-MODIFIED:20091106T030604Z
LOCATION:
SEQUENCE:26519
STATUS:CONFIRMED
SUMMARY:Corso di Fotografia
TRANSP:OPAQUE
END:VEVENT
This way when I import my iCalendar to Google Calendar (or every other application that can read iCal format) I can see this:
What Corso di Fotografia
When Fri Nov 6 21:00 – Fri Nov 6 22:00 (Every 14 days at 21:00)

Well first of all I did not set an end time for this task at 10PM, actually I set an estimated time of 1hr 30min, so end time should have been 10.30PM. Also with other tasks, end time is always one hour later than start time: this is not actually what I wrote. I don't know how do you create the iCal file but you should write the end time based on estimated time. Then if you want to keep estimated time on description as a further information that's ok, but if estimated time is set please write the end time correctly.
Same problem for the Location: location have a dedicated field too in the iCal file but it's only written in Description and when importing to Google Calendar my Location is empty.
I don't know about Notes since I did not write any, but they should be wrote in the Description field anyway.
With those errors, sync my RTM tasks with Google Calendar is almost useless for me and that's a pity since I like really much to handle my tasks and events through RTM with the GMail for Firefox extension...
Is there any way to solve this problem?
Sorry for the long post, I hope I wrote correctly. Thanks for help.

andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
The time estimate is not the same as a duration on a calendar; this has come up before on the forums. We default to an hour across the board.
Hope this helps!

That's exacltly the problem I'm stuck into! Thanks for clearing my doubts. What about Location field instead? Is there a similar problem for Location too?
andrewski (Remember The Milk) says:
The location will be added to the notes field of the event in iCalendar.
