Unable to add, delete or edit tasks on work PC
rozwild says:
I have just started using rtm, but I cannot figure out how to get it to work fully when at work. I can log in fine, and view my tasks, but I cannot make changes to them, or add new tasks. Whenever I try, I just get the rotating dotted circle, and my changes aren't made.
I have tried using the https login, and also clearing my temporary internet files and cookies multiple times. I am using ie7.
The quick add bookmarklet and gmail gadget seem to work fine, so I am using those as a partial work around at the moment. However, I cannot delete tasks (so I now have all sorts of 'test' tasks cluttering up my lists!).
Any ideas of how I can
(a) Get RTM working fully at work (instead of its current 'read-only' state) and/or
(b) Delete tasks using some other access method?
Thanks,
Roz

You may want to add RTM as a Trusted Site in IE. You can find instructions on doing that in IE 7.
Methods 1 and 3 in this Microsoft article would be good to review. It would be good to make sure you clear all cached data (method 1) and to try IE temporarily without Add-Ons (method 3).
Other proxy/network settings may be beyond your control, but you could ask your IT/network administrator.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for all your suggestions - I've worked through them all, unfortunately with no success. It must come down to proxy/network settings, I guess. I'm not sure it would be something the IT team will be able to devote time to solving (after all, we have outlook for task management).
I'll have to carry on using the gmail gadget at work - pity it doesn't allow me to delete tasks (or have I missed it)?

You're correct; the Gadget doesn't have delete functionality. Perhaps you could move them to a "To Delete" list or tag them "deleteme" so you could return to them later?
Of course, if you're using RTM for work, perhaps your IT team would be able to address it, even if just to say that it won't work and why.
Oh, one other thing I didn't think of (that you'd also want to address with them if it came to it!) would be that your anti-virus or security software could be interfering.

Thanks for the idea on marking tasks for later deletion - I particularly like the 'To Delete' list idea. Is there a way of preventing items on the delete list from showing up when I select 'All lists' from the google gadget?
As far as my problems with the rtm website are concrened, ideally I'd like to be able to get a firm idea of why it won't work before contacting our overworked it team!
Any ideas why the google rtm gadget (not firefox sidebar) does work, regardless of whether it's on gmail, google calendar or igoogle, but your website doesn't? If it helps, I've also noticed that I cannot navigate between different lists on your website using my work PC - it seems to default to 'All Tasks'. Does that shed any more light?
Also, are there any plans to add 'delete' functionality to the gadgets? Is there a technical reason why it can't be done?
Thanks for all your help,
Roz
