How do I add Tasks efficiently?

I have a VERY long list of tasks sorted by dates. Whenever I add a new task, however, I write the description and hit return. Then the new task, having no due date, appears at the very bottom of my list. I have to scroll down, then highlight it, THEN add the due date. Is there a more efficient way to do this?

The task you just added should be selected, even if it shows up off-screen. The right hand side should show "New Task" where you can either click on the Due field (or type 'd') to set the due date.
However, when I'm brainstorming and adding a lot of tasks, I will frequently go to my Inbox and add the tasks there. The one thing that doesn't do is automatically set properties (which can be inherited), but for me, in those cases my Smart Lists would already account for the "due:never" part.
